WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (11-4) split with Minnesota Duluth (1-4) on Saturday afternoon to conclude WSU's Spring Break trip at the 2014 RussMatt Invitational. The Warriors have split their last four doubleheaders.
Game One (L, 4-7)
WSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three runs on five hits in the top of the first inning. 
Eric Cunningham (LaSalle, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova) began the scoring with his fourth home run of the season. 
Spencer Church (Windsor, Ont. / Holy Names) and 
Chris Gebara (Troy, Mich.) also collected RBIs in the frame.
UMD responded immediately with five runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning to take a 5-3 lead. Max Vogt connected for a grand slam in the inning. The Bulldogs added to their lead with runs in the third and fifth innings.
Nathan Manis (Port Huron, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) picked up an RBI on a groundout to cut UMD's lead to 7-4 but that would be all WSU could muster.
Chris Horvath (Windsor, Ont. / St. Anne Catholic) (1-1) went two innings, allowing six runs and walking three. 
Jimmy Jackson (Battle Creek, Mich. / Pennfield) went four innings, allowing one run on four hits.
Max Ryan (1-0) went the distance for the Bulldogs while collecting five strikeouts.
Game Two (W, 5-4)
UMD scored two runs in the top of the first on four hits to begin game two, which included a leadoff home run from Kyle Comer.
Zach Johnson (Grandville, Mich.) belted his first home run in the Green & Gold to get the Warriors on the board in the bottom of the second inning.
WSU would score the rest of its runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with four runs on four hits. Gebara, Johnson, Manis and Clifton picked up RBIs in the inning.
The Bulldogs trimmed the deficit to 5-3 with a run in the top of the fourth inning.
UMD pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh to pull within one run but a 5-4-3 double play ended the game and gave WSU its 11th win of the season.
Brock Bates (Delta, Ohio / Evergreen) (1-1) picked up the win in relief. 
Jake Davis (Rochester, Mich. / Stoney Creek) started the game for the Warriors.
Clayton Ruch (Pemberville, Ohio / Eastwood) collected his eighth save of the season and 18th of his career, going 1.2 innings. Ruch needs one more save to match the program record of 19 held by Billy Hurley (2010-2012). Ruch is currently tied for second with Jon Venuto (1999-2002).
