Winter Haven, Fla. -- The 14th-ranked Wayne State University softball squad (10-2 overall) bounced back from an opening game setback at the Rebel Spring Games with a 9-0 triumph in six innings over Northern State (1-1 overall) Saturday afternoon.

WSU starter Briana Lee (Canton, Mich. / Salem) retired the first 15 Wolves batters until a leadoff single in the sixth by shortstop Lauren Kunz.  After a strikeout, Lee hit the ninth-place batter on a 1-2 offering giving NSU its first runner in scoring position.  Lee ended the contest with a strikeout and a comebacker ground out.

The Warrior offense exploded for five runs on six hits in the top of the second.  Lee started the rally with a double to left center and scored on a single to right by Shannon Hilton (Gilford, Ont. / Bradford).  Devin Hentschel (Wyoming, Mich. / Rogers) followed with a single and with two outs, Hilton scored on a base hit by Emily Bryce (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams).  Lyndsay Butler (Cambridge, Ont. / Centennial C.V.I.) laced the next offering into deep right center for a two-run triple wtih Butler then scoring on a single to center by Julie Ingratta (Markham, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova College).

Bryce had a leadoff double in the fourth and scored on an NSU error to make it 6-0.

The following inning, back-to-back walks leading off the frame followed by an infield hit from Hentschel loaded the bases.  WSU's run then came across on a wild pitch.

Wayne State scored its final two runs in the top of the sixth as Butler had a leadoff single, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ingratta and scored as Shelby Spano (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson) reached on a two-base error.
