Offense continued to be the story for the Wayne State University (25-9, 13-5 GLIAC) baseball team on Sunday. The Warriors cruised past Hillsdale (11-24, 9-11 GLIAC), 13-5, to sweep their second straight three-game series and winning their ninth straight game.

Cole Clifton (Sterling Heights. Mich. / De La Salle) doubled down the left field line to get WSU started in the bottom of the first inning. Zach Johnson (Grandville, Mich.) delivered a sacrifice fly and A.J. Matos (Southgate, Mich. / Detroit Western) drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead after one inning.

Starter David Frederick (Rockford, Mich. / Northview) (3-2) set down the first six Chargers in order. Joe Gentile plated a run with an RBI groundout to first in the top of the third inning.

Jimmy Jackson (Battle Creek, Mich. / Pennfield) smacked his second home run of the season to right field to extend WSU's lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the third inning. In a series that featured several big innings, the bottom of the fifth inning on Sunday was the largest. The Green & Gold scored eight runs on six hits to take a 13-1 lead, Eric Cunningham (LaSalle, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova) drove in two runs with a double to right center field to commence the scoring. Kyle Zimmerman (Frankfort, Mich.), Cameron Walker (Clinton Twp., Mich. / De La Salle), Johnson, Griffin Harms (Bingham Farms, Mich. / Birmingham Groves) and Randy Kuzdak (Redford, Mich. / Dearborn Divine Child) all picked up RBI in the inning.

Hillsdale pushed across two runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 13-3. Jake Davis (Rochester, Mich. / Stoney Creek) entered to record the final out of the inning. Jeff Sorenson (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) and Brock Bates (Delta, Ohio / Evergreen) would handle the seventh and eighth innings as the Chargers scored a run off each pitcher to trim the home lead to 13-5.

Clayton Ruch (Pemberville, Ohio / Eastwood) stayed sharp with an inning of work in the ninth inning and set the Chargers down in order, ending the game with strikeout. Frederick went 5 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits while striking out two batters.
