Big Rapids, Mich. -- The 35th-ranked Wayne State University softball team (31-9 overall, 11-5 GLIAC) recorded a doubleheader sweep at Ferris State University (13-15 overall, 8-9 GLIAC) on Tuesday afternoon with victories of 11-3 and 9-1 in six innings.  The Warriors have won at least 30 games for the ninth consecutive season and for the 13th time in the last 14 years.

Game 1
WSU snapped a scoreless game with a pair of runs in the top of the third.  Leadoff batter Emily Cava (Oakville, Ont. / Cardinal Leger S.S.) singled and advanced to second on an infield hit by Logan White (Brantford, Ont. / Johnson C.V.I.).  Lyndsay Butler (Cambridge, Ont. / Centennial C.V.I.) walked to load the bases with Cava scoring the game's first run as Emily Bryce (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) reached on an error.  After a strikeout, Jade McGarr (Guelph, Ont. / St. James Catholic) hit a sacrifice fly to plate White.

Wayne State added two runs in the top of the fourth as Gabby Williams (South Lyon, Mich.) had a leadoff double to left and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Devin Hentschel (Wyoming, Mich. / Rogers).  Williams scored on a passed ball, before Cava walked.  With two outs, Cava stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Butler to make it 4-0.

The Warriors tallied five runs on three hits and two Ferris miscues in the top of the fifth to open a 9-0 advantage.  Julie Ingratta (Markham, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova College) and McGarr each reached on errors to start the frame.  Amanda Burnard (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) singled to score Ingratta, while Williams hit a sacrifice fly to score McGarr.  Hentschel followed with an infield single before Cava laced an RBI single to right center with both Hentschel and Burnard scoring on the hit and throw.  White produced the final run of the inning on an RBI groundout.

The Bulldogs avoided the mercy rule with two runs on two hits and two Warrior errors in the bottom of the fifth.

Wayne State scored twice in the top of the seventh as Cava singled for her third hit of the game with one out.  With two outs, Butler doubled to left field and both runners scored when Bryce reached on an error.

FSU added a solo run in the bottom of the seventh on a leadoff home run.

Cava finished 3-for-3 with four runs scored as she reached base in all five plate appearances (two walks).  Butler added two hits as part of WSU's 10-hit attack.

Butler also earned her 15th win of the season by allowing two unearned runs on two hits in six innings with six strikeouts and one walk.  Mackenzie Boehler (Saginaw, Mich. / Swan Valley) pitched the seventh.

Game 2
The Warriors pounded out 12 hits in six innings and outscored the Bulldogs 9-1 in a game that ended with two runs in the bottom of the sixth due to the mercy rule.

Williams smacked her first collegiate home run leading off the bottom of the third snapping a scoreless tie.

WSU then chased Bulldog starter Amy Dunleavy (4-8) in the bottom of the fourth by scoring six runs on four hits with the aid of two Ferris miscues.  Ingratta had an infield single before McGarr reached on an error.  Burnard then followed with a three-run blast on a 3-2 offering after fouling off one 3-2 pitch.  Wayne State starting pitcher Briana Lee (Canton, Mich. / Salem) then walked on a 3-2 delivery before Williams singled advancing pinch-runner Catherine Rayos (Warren, Mich. / Mott) to second.  The bases were loaded after Cava reached on an error.  Butler's sacrifice fly scored Rayos and Bryce followed with a two-run single.

FSU kept from being blanked with back-to-back two-out doubles in the top of the sixth.

Wayne State ended the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Cava singled leading off the inning and was at third following a pair of ground outs.  Pinch-hitter Ali Lince (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) singled in Cava, then Ingratta doubled in Lince.

Cava, Ingratta and Williams each had two hits apiece.

Lee (15-2) struck out 12 and did not walk a batter, while a pair of Bulldog hurlers surrendered nine runs (five earned) on 12 hits with one strikeout and one walk.

Wayne State will conclude the regular season with six consecutive home games beginning with a twinbill against Lake Erie on Wednesday at the WSU Softball Stadium.  First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
