TIFFIN, Ohio -- In its final road game of the regular season, the Wayne State University baseball (31-13, 19-9 GLIAC) fell at Tiffin (14-29, 14-13 GLIAC) on Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors scored a run and put the tying run on third base in the top of the ninth inning but were unable to do any more damage as the Dragons avoided the series sweep with a 4-3 win.

Cameron Walker (Clinton Twp., Mich. / De La Salle) gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead with a two-run double into right center field in the top of the first inning.

The Dragons were quick to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the first inning with back-to-back RBI base hits. Tiffin put two runners on with two outs in the bottom of the third inning but Zach Johnson (Grandville, Mich.) gunned down a baserunner attempting to steal third base to end the inning. Johnson threw out another potential base stealer in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Starter Brandyn Hall (Sylvania, Ohio / Northview) (3-2) allowed two runs to score in the top of the fifth inning on three hits and a wild pitch after retiring the first two batters of the inning. Brock Bates (Delta, Ohio / Evergreen) replaced Hall to collect the final out of the frame.

Following two walks and a strikeout to begin the top of the sixth inning from Bates, Jimmy Jackson (Battle Creek, Mich. / Pennfield) was summoned from the bullpen and was able to keep deficit at two. Jackson also tossed a scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth innings.

A one-out single from Jackson, a A.J. Mato walk (Southgate, Mich. / Detroit Western) and a Tiffin fielding error allowed pinch-runner Justin Sherman (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Pioneer) to score and WSU trimmed the home lead to 4-3. Pinch-runner Nathan Manis (Port Huron, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) stole third base with two outs but Daniel Sexton was able to strike out the final two batters to end the game and collect his first save of the season.

The Green & Gold will host Walsh this weekend for a three-game series. WSU will honor its 11 seniors prior to Saturday's doubleheader.
