DETROIT --
The Wayne State University baseball team (20-9, 8-5 GLIAC) took a break from the GLIAC schedule to host the Blue Knights of Urbana (13-8, 12-4 MEC) on Tuesday afternoon and the Warriors handled the visitors, 5-2, for their fourth consecutive win. Jake Davis (Rochester, Mich. / Stoney Creek) (2-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Tyler Tompson (Farmington, Mich.).

Clayton Ruch (Pemberville, Ohio / Eastwood) picked up his 10th save of the season and 20th of his career breaking the program record of 19 held by Billy Hurley (2010-12). With one more save, Ruch would match Hurley's single-season mark of 11.

Nathan Manis (Port Huron, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) began the bottom of the first inning with a double to left field and Cameron Walker (Clinton Twp., Mich. / De La Salle) followed with a towering double off the "Green Monster" in left field to stake the Warriors to an early 1-0 lead. Eric Cunningham (LaSalle, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova) doubled WSU's advantage with a single back up the middle and into center field.

Urbana trimmed the home lead to 2-1 with a run on a fielding error charged to Walker at third base in the top of the third inning.

Both teams went scoreless for the next four innings as Davis was nearly untouchable until the top of the eighth inning when Urbana attempted a rally. Ruch entered with two runners on and Jose Vargas was able to push across one run with a single through the right side but a 1-6-3 groundball double play would end the frame.

The Green & Gold collected two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to extend its lead to 5-2. Kyle Zimmerman (Frankfort, Mich. / Frankfort) had an RBI in the inning.

In the top of the ninth inning, Ruch retired the side in order with the help of a game-ending 4-6-3 double play. Tompson went three innings and did not allow an earned run and struck out three batters. Davis went 4 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits and striking out three hitters.

Walker picked up his seventh multi-hit game of the season going 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI while Griffin Harms (Bingham Farms, Mich. / Birmingham Groves) went 2-for-3 for his second career multi-hit game.

WSU will play a doubleheader at Findlay on Wednesday beginning at 2 PM.
