MIDLAND, Mich. – The Wayne State University women's tennis team was defeated by GLIAC opponent Northwood, 6-2, on Tuesday afternoon at the Midland Community Tennis Center. Junior
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) remains undefeated in singles play this season with a record of 8-0.
DOUBLES- Senior
Alex Poissant (Laval, Que. / Vanier Prep) and Mitrache topped Alisa Reshetnikova and Maria Avksenenko, 8-6, at the second doubles flight.
- Freshmen pair
Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ont. / Northview Heights S.S.) and
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia / Moscow School 45) fell short, 8-4, to Carol Arnez-Mercado and Anna Aniskina at No. 1 doubles, while junior duo
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) and
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) were bested by Olesia Riabchuk and Anastasila Kazub, 8-1, at the third spot.
SINGLES- Mitrache defeated Arnez-Mercado in a super tiebreaker, 10-3 (6-7, 6-2), the first flight.

Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil / Unificado) was topped by Tetyana Pavych, 6-4, 7-5, at the sixth position , and senior
Julia Kamenko (Toronto, Ont. / Vaughan S.S.) lost, 6-2, 6-4, to Aniskina at No. 5 singles.
- Poissant fell short in two-straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, at the second flight, while Kuznetsova was bested by Kazub, 6-1, 6-0, at the fourth position.
- Peisachovitz lost to Riabchuk in the first set, 7-6, and the second set was unfinished due to court time conflicts at 4-2 with a Northwood lead.
UP NEXT - The Warriors will take on league opponent Hillsdale this Friday at the Margot V. Biermann Center. The match is slated for 1 p.m. WSU beat the Chargers, 8-1, last season.
