MIDLAND, Mich. -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (10-14, 5-7 GLIAC) swept Northwood (10-13, 6-6 GLIAC) on Friday night powered by 15 kills from
Hannah Moore (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption) and
Emily Norscia (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill). The Warriors have won three of their last four matches. WSU won by set scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 27-25.
HOW IT HAPPENED- The Timberwolves jumped out to a 6-2 lead to begin the first set. A kill from Moore tied the set at 9-9 before
Brittany Guldan (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) gave WSU a one-point advantage with a kill on the ensuing play. An ace from
Hailey Richardson (New Boston, Mich. / Huron) staked WSU to a 15-12 lead and a
Grace Frazee (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) kill extended the lead to 21-16.
Emily Norscia sealed the win with a kill to end the set.
- Following an NU attack error, WSU led the second set 7-4.
Kelsey Bonewits (Griffith, Ind.) cut the deficit to two points at 13-11 with a kill. A poor set by Northwood gave the Green & Gold a 16-15 lead. The set was tied at 20-20, 21-21, 22-22 before the Warriors won the final three points to win the set 25-22.
- Looking to complete the sweep, Wayne State led the third set 9-5. Back-to-back kills from Norscia and a combo block from Bonewits and
Mikayla Shell (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington), gave WSU a 12-7 lead. Another kill from Norscia put the Warriors on top 21-20 but Northwood would comeback to tie the set at 25-25. An NU attack error and a block from Guldan and Frazee gave WSU the 27-25 win and a 3-0 sweep.
LEADING THE WARRIORS- Guldan dished out 41 assists while
Ellie Rodriguez (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Catholic Central) collected 12 digs.
UP NEXT- WSU will play its final road match of the regular season at Lake Superior State at 3:30 PM.
