SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (11-14, 6-7 GLIAC) continued to trend upwards with a 3-1 win at Lake Superior State (0-20, 0-13 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors dropped the first set 25-23 before winning three straight by scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-20.
At 6-7 in league matches, WSU is currently tied for the fifth spot in the North Division and tied for the seventh seed overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED- The Lakers led the opening set 9-2 but WSU would come back to tie the set at 15-15 and take a 16-15 advantage on an ace from
Ellie Rodriguez (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Catholic Central). LSSU led 23-21 before a kill fom
Emily Norscia (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) and a block from Norscia and
Michelle Asiedu (Holland, Ohio / Springfield). LSSU won the set on back-to-back Warrior attack errors.
- The Warriors seized the momentum and led 11-4 to begin the second set. Following consecutive points from Asiedu, the Green & Gold lead ballooned to 19-7. The Lakers started to perform near the end of the set but WSU closed the set with a 25-15 victory.
- Wayne State led the third set 9-3 after a kill by
Mikayla Shell (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington). Two straight LSSU attack errors extended the visitors lead to 16-6 and the Warriors won the final four points to take a 2-1 match lead with a 25-15 win.
- The Lakers led 10-7 and eventually 14-12. WSU went on a 5-0 run tot ake a 17-14 lead. LSSU cut the deficit to one at 17-16 before WSU finished the set on an 8-4 run to win 25-20.
LEADING THE WARRIORS- Norscia paced the WSU offense with a season-high 18 kills while
Hannah Moore (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption) posted 10 kills.

Brittany Guldan (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) dished out 44 assists and Rodriguez tallied 12 digs.
Haley Tenelshof (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Jenison) also added 10 digs.
