Men's Hoops Falls in Season Finale

Michael Lewis leads Warriors with 21 points and seven rebounds.

FINDLAY, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (5-20, 5-17 GLIAC) concluded its season at Findlay (16-10, 13-9 GLIAC) on Thursday night. The Warriors trailed by as many as 25 in the second half and fell 86-70.

Clark Bishop (Detroit, Mich. / Renaissance) connected from deep to give WSU a 5-2 lead just 52 seconds into the contest. However, Findlay responded with a 14-0 run to take a 16-5 lead at the 13:40 mark.

A three-point play from Michael Lewis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) pulled the visitors within five, 18-13, with 11:15 left to play in the opening half.

Jake Heagen gave the Oilers a 28-13 advantage with a layup at the nine-minute mark. The lead ballooned to 35-17 with just under seven minutes left before intermission. At halftime, Findlay led 49-28. WSU shot 34.5 percent (10-of-29) compared the Oilers' 61.3 (19-of-31) field goal percentage.

Lewis led the Warriors with eight points and four rebounds while Heagen led all scorers with nine points plus five boards.

The deficit stayed at 20, 52-32, with 17:54 left to play. A Daniel Ball (Dearborn Heights, Mich. / Allen Park Cabrini) layup brought the Green & Gold with 18, 61-43, at the 13-minute mark of the second half to cap a 6-0 run.

Bewteen media timeouts at 13:53 and 9:47, the Warriors outscored the Oilers 12-8 but still trailed 69-50. Gavin Toma (Troy, Mich. / Southfield Christian) followed with a triple to cut deficit to 16. Findlay knocked down back-to-back treys to extend lead to 19 at the six-minute mark.

The Warriors cut UF's lead to 13, 77-64, after a jumper from Toma with four minutes remaining. Tristan Wilson (
Ann Arbor, Mich. / Skyline) followed with a three-point play to pull WSU within 11 at the three-minute mark.

WSU's comeback attempt ran out of time and Findlay won comfortably, 86-70.

Lewis led the Warriors with 21 points and seven rebounds. Toma chipped in 12 while Marcus Moore (
Lansing, Mich. / Waverly) grabbed a career-high nine rebounds. Ball finished with 11 points. Four Oilers posted double-digit scoring nights led by 22 from Heagen.

Next season, the Warriorsare expected to return over 90 percent of the minutes played and points scored in 2014-15. In addition, 74 percent of total minutes played this season were by underclassmen.
