Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Wayne State University softball team (34-16 overall, 18-3 GLIAC) won its 16th straight game with a 4-0 triumph in game one at Ohio Dominican University (12-34 overall, 8-16 GLIAC) but fell 5-1 in the nightcap.

In the opener, sophomore pitcher Lyndsay Butler (Cambridge, Ont. / Centennial C.V.I.) won her ninth straight decision as she limited the Panthers to one hit through the first six innings and worked around a pair of singles in the seventh.  Butler (18-6) struck out nine and did not walk a batter, while facing just 24 ODU hitters.

The Warriors snapped a scoreless tie in the top of the third as sophomore first baseman Allie Buchanan (Cambridge, Ont. / Galt C.I.) led off with a bunt single.  After back-to-back fielder choices, senior second baseman Nikki Fulton (Stratford, Ont. / St. Michael Catholic S.S.) laced an RBI double to left center plating freshman right fielder Kristen Lucas (Newmarket, Ont. / Mulock S.S.) with the game's first run.

Fresman designated player Kylee Barrett (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington) had a one-out single down the left field line in the fourth.  Sophomore left fielder Devin Hentschel (Wyoming, Mich. / Rogers) followed with a sacrifice bunt and junior center fielder Shannon Hilton (Gilford, Ont. / Bradford) delivered a two-out RBI single to center.  Pinch-hitter Shelby Spano (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson) then doubled in Hilton.

WSU scored its final run in the top of the seventh as Butler and Lucas recorded consecutive infield hits, before Fulton smacked an RBI single.

Brandis Fishel (3-12) started in the circle for the Panthers and allowed three earned runs on nine hits in six innings.  She did not record a strikeout or a walk.  Casey Murdoch tossed the final inning allowing one earned run on three hits with one strikeout.

Lucas had three hits in the contest to pace WSU's 12-hit attack.  Fulton contributed two hits and two RBI, while Hilton added two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

ODU's Alex Jander (4-1) limited the Warriors to three hits in the nightcap.

The Panthers scored twice in the top of the first after the first two batters were retired on a double and a walk, followed by a single with a fielding error.

Wayne State cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first as Lucas drew a one-out walk, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on senior catcher Emily Bryce's (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) two-out single.

Ohio Dominican broke the game open in the top of the fourth with a trio of runs on four hits and WSU miscue.

Briana Lee (Canton, Mich. / Salem) started for WSU and surrendered five runs (four earned) on six hits in three innings of work.  Lee (13-7) struck out four and walked one.  Junior Mackenzie Boehler (Saginaw, Mich. / Swan Valley) pitched the final four innings allowing just two hits and no runs.  She struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Hentschel and Lucas had the other two hits for the Warriors with Lucas' hit being a double.

Wayne State will play a GLIAC doubleheader at Tiffin on Saturday.  First pitch of game one has been moved up to noon because of impending inclement weather in Tiffin.
