RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Wayne State University softball squad (9-2) concluded play at the Shaw University Challenge on Sunday by defeating Millersville, 2-1, and Queen's (N.C.), 5-0, to extend its winning streak to five games.
GAME ONE RECAPThe Marauders took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a leadoff triple by Kelsey Campbell and a two-out infield single by Raeann Buskey.
The Warriors tied the game in the bottom of the frame as freshman
Hannah McClounie (Essex, Ont. / St. Anne Catholic) had a leadoff single and was sacrificed to second by senior
Shannon Hilton (Gilford, Ont. / Bradford). After McClounie stole third, she scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of senior
Ali Lince (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview).

Lyndsay Butler (Cambridge, Ont. / Centennial C.V.I.) was able to work out of a bases loaded jam with only one out as Campbell grounded into a 5-2-3 double play in the third. Butler then led off the bottom of the inning with a solo home run to center field after fouling off four consecutive 3-2 pitches.
Butler retired the final 13 Millersville hitters starting with the double play.
IN THE CIRCLEButler improved to 6-1 by allowing just the one earned run on three hits in seven innings of work with 11 strikeouts to zero walks.
Brianna Andraos (2-1) surrendered two earned runs on five hits in six innings. She struck t two and did not walk a batter.
LEADING THE WARRIORSButler and McClounie each had two hits as part of Wayne State's five-hit attack.

Jade McGarr (Guelph, Ont. / St. James Catholic) belted her first career grand slam. Sophomore
Kylee Barrett (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington) began the inning with a single and Butler reacheed on a one-out error. Junior
Allie Buchanan (Cambridge, Ont. / Galt C.I.) had a bunt single to load the bases before McGarr's round tripper on an 0-1 offering.
Wayne State added an insurance in the sixth as McClounie had a leadoff single and advanced to third on a one-out pinch-hit single by freshman
Megan Guitar (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington). Barrett followed with a sacrifice fly plating McClounie.

Mackenzie Boehler (Saginaw, Mich. / Swan Valley) tossed a three-hit shuout. She struck out three and walked one.
Evie Scott started for the Royals and was tagged wtih the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits in 2 1/3 innings. She had two strikeouts to zero walks. Lyndey McCurry pitched the final 4.2 innings limiting WSU to one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts.
LEADING THE WARRIORSCava and McClounie each had two hits, while McGarr had her fourth career four-RBI game.
LEADING THE OPPOSITIONElaina Frantellizzi had two of Queen's three hits including a double.
