Men's Basketball Emphatically Snaps Losing Skid

Five Warriors scored in double-digits.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (10-6, 7-5 GLIAC) ended a five-game losing streak in style with an 89-66 win over Northwood (4-17, 2-10 GLIAC) on Thursday night.  A 52-point second half propelled the Warriors to a 23-point victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wayne State led 8-0 early at the 17-minute mark, powered by four points from Chuck Key (Detroit, Mich. / Cass Tech).  Marcus Moore (Lansing, Mich. / Waverly) connected from deep and Key followed with a turn around jumper to extend the advantage to 13-1 with 15 minutes to play.  Back-to-back triples by Northwood, including its first field goal of the contest at the 13:55 mark, trimmed the deficit to 17-9.  The Timberwolves continued their comeback and pulled within four, 17-13, with 12 minutes to play.  Ronald Booth (Detroit, Mich. / Consortium) stopped NU's 10-0 run with a trey at the 11:45 mark.  NU's Zach Allread's three-pointer at the 6:50 mark tied the game 23-23 and the T-Wolves took their first lead, 27-25, of the game with 5:25 remaining.  Key finished the half strong with two buckets, giving WSU a 37-34 lead at intermission.

- The teams exchanged baskets early in the second half as the Green & Gold led 39-36 at the 18-minute mark.  Northwood tallied four quick points to take a 40-39 lead with 17:32 to play.  Four free throws, including two from Michael Lewis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) pushed WSU's lead to 43-40 at the 16:23 mark.  An athletic layup by Moore gave the Warriors a 46-40 lead with 14:36 remaining.  Booth followed with a trey, giving WSU a seven-point advantage, 49-42.  A conventional three-point play from Booth on the next possession continued the home rally (13-2 run), extended the advantage to 52-42.  A George Spencer (Detroit, Mich. / Belleville) fast break layup plus a free throw after a foul pushed WSU's lead to 59-47 at the 11:25 mark.  Booth connected from 12-feet to give the home squad its largest lead of the night at 65-50 with nine minutes to play.  A triple from Spencer on the next trip down forced NU to take a timeout to slow the run as the lead grew to 18 at the 8:40 mark.  The Warriors would continue to execute offensively and cruise to an 89-66 victory.  Wayne State ended the game on 50-26 run after NU led 40-39 with 17:32 left in the contest.
