DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's basketball squad (6-13 overall, 3-9 GLIAC) allowed 26 fourth quarter points in falling 60-49 to the visiting Northwood University Timberwolves (9-8 overall, 6-6 GLIAC) Thursday evening at the Matthaei.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter saw both teams shoot less than 32 percent from the floor, but Northwood tallied the final seven points for a 16-11 edge after 10 minutes. Both squads were limited to four made field goals each in the opening stanza.
The Timberwolves led by nine (22-13) after a fast break jumper by Maddy Seeley just past the mid-point of the period, but the Warriors rallied by scoring six of the final seven points before halftime to pull within four (23-19) at intermission. Each team only made three field goals in the second quarter which saw a combined 15 points (8 by WSU and 7 by Northwood).
After a lay-up by freshman

Ja'Nae Williams (Detroit, Mich. / Martin Luther King) and a triple by Chambers just over 30 seconds later made it a two-point contest (34-32). Neither team scored for the final 2:30 of the period.
A lay-up by Chambers and two free throws by Williams gave WSU a 36-34 lead, its first since an 11-9 advantage late in the first quarter. NU's Jordyn Nurenberg had four straight points, but junior
Shannon Wilson (W. Bloomfield, Mich. / Bloomfield Hills) connected from long range. After two free throws by Nurenberg, Williams drained a triple for a two point Warrior lead (42-40). Nurenberg and junior
Daejia Hill (Muskegon, Mich. / Orchard View) traded buckets to keep the two-point margin for the hosts. Zakiya Wells hit a jumper and followed that with a triple on NU's ensuing possession to give Northwood the lead for good.
After a pair of foul shots by senior
Christina Green (Southfield, Mich. / Lathrup) cut the Warrior deficit to one (47-46), WSU did not make a field goal until Wilson's hoop with 18 seconds left. All told, Wayne State went 4:47 without a field goal down the stretch going 0-for-5 from the floor with four turnovers.
