ASHLAND, Ohio – The Wayne State University volleyball team (15-12 overall, 10-6 GLIAC) ended the regular season with a 3-0 loss at South Division champion Ashland University (25-5 overall 14-2 GLIAC) Saturday afternoon. AU won 25-23, 25-13, and 25-15.
After falling behind 2-0, the Warriors went on a 13-5 run to grab a 13-7 advantage. The host Eagles answered with a 10-4 spurt to even the set at 17-17. With the set tied at 23-23, AU's McKinley Smith had a kill and a block gave Ashland the first set.
AU scored the first nine points of the second set, and WSU never got closer than five points (10-5, 11-6, 14-9 and 15-10).
The Warriors led 3-2 early in the third set after a kill by Olivia Fike, but the Eagles went on a 6-0 run for a 8-3 lead. Wayne State was able to get within four (11-7), but never closer.

Hailey Richardson and Madelyn Krenz each had eight kills, while Fike contributed seven kills. Ellie Rodriguez had a match-high 18 digs.

Shelby Wocik had a match high 14 kills, while Sophi Cudworth added 10 kills.
Wayne State will begin GLIAC Tournament action with a quarterfinal match at Saginaw Valley State on Wednesday.
