Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader vs. UMSL

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (7-4 overall) squared up against Missouri-St. Louis (5-8 overall) twice on Saturday and the Warriors won both games to extend their winning streak to three.  The Warriors scored seven runs over the final three innings to take game one 8-3 and a three-run sixth inning in game two propelled the Green & Gold to a 6-3 victory.

GAME ONE (W, 8-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED

- Brad Baldwin (Troy, Mich. / Bishop Foley Catholic) drove in the game's first run with a single in the top of the third inning.  UMSL answered with two runs on a hit and two errors in the bottom of the third inning.  The Tritons added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a WSU throwing error.

- Zach Girard (Sleepy Hollow, Ill. / Dundee Crown) reached via a fielding error and Devin Rose (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Orchard Lake St. Mary's) followed with a single down the left field line.  A fielding error by the left fielder allowed Girard to come around and score before a Jacob Finkbeiner (Saline, Mich.) tied the game at 3-3 with an RBI groundout.

- Tristen Jorah (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Sterling Heights Stevenson) reached via a hit-by-pitch and then stole second, advancing to third on a muffed throw to start things in the sixth inning.  The Warriors took a 4-3 lead on an RBI single from Patrick Adams (Detroit, Mich. / De La Salle).  WSU added four more runs in the seventh inning on five hits including doubles from Baldwin and Justin Kelley (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton Warrenville South).

AT THE PLATE
- Rose, Baldwin, Kelly and Jorah all tallied two hits, while Baldwin drove in three runs.

ON THE MOUND
- Josh Nelson (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Saline) (2-0) allowed three unearned runs over five innings before Taylor Horn (Leo, Ind.) worked the final two innings and did not allow a run.

GAME TWO (W, 6-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED

- UMSL jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three and a 1/2 innings.  The Warriors tied the game at 3-3 with three hits and an error in the bottom of the fourth inning.  After back-to-back doubles by Baldwin and Kelly put WSU on the board, a Troy Daring, Jr. (Brampton, Ont.) singled to right field, cutting the deficit to one, 3-2.  Jorah reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to second on a groundout and then stole third and scored on the same play after a poor throw by UMSL's catcher.

- The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth inning when Wayne State plated three runs on three hits.  Jorah singled to left field with one out before Adams gave the Warriors a 4-3 lead with an RBI double.  Pinch-hitter Jack Schmidt (Fishers, Ind. / Indianapolis Cathedral) singled home a run and later scored on a passed ball to conclude the game's scoring.
