Softball Splits At Tiffin

Warriors rebound from 4-3 setback for 9-3 victory.

TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Wayne State University softball team (20-15 overall, 5-9 GLIAC) split a conference doubleheader at Tiffin University (20-15 overall, 8-4 GLIAC) Thursday afternoon.  A late rally by the Warriors was not enough in game one falling 4-3.  WSU recorded a 9-3 triumph in the nightcap to end a four-game losing streak.

GAME ONE RECAP

The Dragons scored once in the first on a pair of hits, a stolen base and a Wayne State error.

TU increased its lead to 2-0 in the fourth on a walk, a ground out, and an RBI single by Amanda Rock.

Tiffin led 3-0 after a run in the fifth on two hits, a walk and a bases loaded hit by pitch.

In the sixth, a leadoff single, a stolen base and an RBI single by Libby Crow made it 4-0.

In the top of the seventh, the Warriors scored three times and had the tying run at second base when the final out was recorded.  Senior Kristen Lucas (Newmarket, Ont.) walked, and with one out sophomore Emma Adams (Rockwood, Ont.) singled.  Freshman Rose Myers (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester) worked a walk to load the bases.  Freshman Rainey Psenicka (Guelph, Ont.) drove home both Lucas and pinch-runner Hailey Lazarek (Allen Park, Mich.) with a single.  Myers scored on an RBI ground out by sophomore Brooke Turkalj (St. Jacobs, Ont.).

The Warriors began the contest with four consecutive singles - Lucas, Psenicka, Turkalj and freshman Bryanna Kressler (Kitchener, Ont.) - with Kressler's base hit scoring two.

Tiffin responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to knot the game at 2-2.

Kressler led off the fifth with a single and advanced to second on a single by junior Megan Guitar (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington).  Myers reached on an error to load the bases with one out.  Adams followed with a two-run single, then Lazarek delivered an RBI single to make it 5-2.   With two outs, Psenicka's double plated Adams and Turkalj contributed a two-run single.

WSU added to its advantage in the sixth as McClounie was hit by a pitch, went to second on a ground out, and scored on a single by Myers.
