DETROIT – The Wayne State University women's tennis team improved to 17-8 overall on Sunday, winning 9-0 over Notre Dame College (2-10 overall) at the Multipurpose Indoor Facility.
It was Senior Day for the Warriors, as
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) and
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) were honored before the start of the home contest.
DOUBLES RESULTS
The Warriors earned wins in the first and second flights, claiming a point at No. 3 due to a default.
Ghellere and Mitrache won 8-1 over Laura Herrera and Ameer Robertson in the first flight. Freshmen
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) and
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) were successful at No. 2 over Camryn Kidd and Emily Hofsess (8-0).
SINGLES RESULTS
In the first flight, junior
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) won 6-1, 6-0 over Herrera.
Freshman
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont. / Robert Bateman S.S.) earned a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Robertson.
Freshman
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) won 6-0, 6-1 over Hofsess.
Douglas and
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont. / St. Anne's S.S.) played fourth and fifth singles, respectively, with both winning 6-0, 6-0. Douglas defeated Kidd, while Ciellza defeated Hannah Philippi.
Wayne State won by default at the sixth flight.
