DETROIT – The Wayne State University women's tennis team (18-8 overall) concluded its 2017-18 regular season Tuesday with a 9-0 win over visiting Walsh University (10-10 overall) inside the Multipurpose Indoor Facility.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Junior
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and freshman
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont. / Robert Bateman S.S.) were successful in the first flight, winning 8-4 over Clara Drasch and Mercedes Fernandez.
The lone seniors on the team,
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) and
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Cousino) paired together at No. 2, winning 8-2 over Maria Kacalova and Katarina Raszum.
Freshmen
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) and
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio) Chaminade Julienne) were 8-1 winners over Sofia Khairutdinova and Parvanee Karimpour in the third flight.
SINGLES RESULTS
Mitrache played the first flight, winning 6-3, 6-1 over Fernandez.
Kuznetsova claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win over Kacalova at second singles.
Da-Silva defeated Drasch, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3.
In the fourth flight, Ghellere was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Raszum.
Junior
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont. / St. Anne's S.S.) played the fifth flight and defeated Khairutdinova (6-0, 6-3).
Freshman
Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) defeated Karimpour 6-0, 6-1 at the sixth flight.
