DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (10-9 overall, 3-1 GLIAC) used a sixth flight win from sophomore 
Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) to push past visitor Grand Valley State (12-7 overall, 4-3 GLIAC) on Saturday, snapping a five-match losing streak to the Lakers.
Sammons earned a 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 win over Marcus Muniz Infante to break the 4-4 tie and push the Warriors to the win.  It was the first win for Wayne State against GVSU since April 5, 2014.
DOUBLES RESULTS
GVSU took the 2-1 advantage in doubles points, winning at the first and second flights.
In the third flight, Sammons and senior 
Harvey Reed (Winchester, England) earned the WSU point with an 8-5 win over Nicholas Urban and Jack Geissler.
At No. 1, sophomore 
Mats Westkamp (Bonn, Germany) and freshman 
Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) fell to Alex van de Steenoven and Drew Coleman.
Juniors 
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) and 
Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) joined togther in the second flight, falling 8-3 to DJ Colantone and Sebastien Lescoulie.
SINGLES RESULTS
Westkamp tied the match at 2-2 with a win over Lescoulie at the first flight (6-1, 6-0), and Karcz gave the Warriors an advantage at No. 3 thanks to a win over van de Steenoven (6-3, 6-2).
The Warriors put the Lakers on the ropes with a 4-2 to lead thanks to the fourth flight win for Mertz, defeating Urban (7-6, 6-2).
GVSU tied the match back up with wins at No. 5 and No. 2, in order, respectively.  Reed lost 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 to Colantone at the fifth flight, and Vane fell to Geissler at No. 2 (3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5)).
