STOW, Ohio – The Wayne State University women's tennis team (15-8 overall, 8-2 GLIAC) earned an 8-1 win over opponent Wilmington (11-7 overall) in a non-conference neutral site match at the LuTuchie Tennis Center Saturday night.
DOUBLES RESULTS
The Warriors swept the doubles flights in the event with all three flights winning 8-2.
In the first flight, junior
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and freshman
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont. / Robert Bateman S.S.) defeated Laura Gil and Andrea Ribalta. At No. 2, seniors
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) and
Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) were winners over Anushka Sathe and Begona Gomar. At the third flight, freshmen
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) and
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) defeated Tess Paya and Jane Malygina.
SINGLES RESULTS
Mitrache won 6-0, 6-0 over Gomar in the first flight.
Kuznetsova defeated Malygina (6-2, 6-1) at No. 2.
Da-Silva was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Gil in the third flight.
Ghellere defeated Sathe 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4.
In the fifth flight, Liong was a 6-2, 6-4 champion over Ribalta.
Douglas fell to Paya, 6-2, 1-6, 10-7 in the final contest.
