HOUGHTON, Mich. -- The Wayne State University volleyball program (8-8 overall, 3-5 GLIAC) played the first of two matches in the U.P. on Friday night vs. Michigan Tech (12-4 overall, 7-1 GLIAC) and the Warriors fell in straight sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Wayne State led the opening set 7-4 following a kill byÂ
Taylor Wagner (St. Joseph, Mich. / Lakeshore). Â The Huskies tied the set at 10-10 and the teams traded points until it was tied at 15-15. Â The game remained tied at 18-18 and 20-20 but Michigan Tech won the final five points to win 25-20 and take a 1-0 match lead.
The home team continued to have the momentum and won the first six points of the second set and led 15-5. Â The deficit grew to 20-8 as MTU eventually would win 25-11.
The Warriors were unable to find its footing and the Huskies led the third set 12-2 before the Huskies cruised to a 25-8 win and a three-set sweep.

Kamryn Duffield (Romeo, Mich.) dished out 15 assists.
Maddy Benoit (Farmington, Mich. / Mercy) anchored the defense with 13 digs.
