MIDLAND, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (6-0 overall, 6-0 GLIAC) notched a 6-1 victory at Northwood (2-5 overall, 2-5 GLIAC) on Saturday.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Freshman
Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) and junior
Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) were the first to finish, winning their No. 3 doubles match 6-2 vs. Paula John and Vasilisa Mikhaylova.
At No. 2 doubles, juniorsÂ
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) andÂ
Teodora Radu (Ramnicu Valcea, Romania) edged Ekaterina Vorobeva and Iryna Trystan, 6-2.
Sophomore
Laura Cazacu (London, England) and junior
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) topped Kate Berestovenko and Elizaveta Velichko, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles.
SINGLES RESULTS
Da-Silva was first to finish after notching a victory over Vorobeva at No. 3 singles (6-3, 6-2).
At No. 2 singles, Liong tallied a win against Velichko (6-4, 6-4).
Cazacu won in a close No. 1 singles match versus Berestovenko (7-5, 6-4).
Radu earned a win after a tight No. 4 singles match vs. Mikhaylova (7-5, 7-5).
At No. 6 singles, sophomore
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) notched a victory over John (6-3, 6-1).
Laynes dropped her No. 5 singles match to Trystan (7-5, 7-5).
