WSU Athletics Announces 2020 Hall of Fame Class

DETROIT -- Six former Wayne State University student-athletes have been selected for induction into the Wayne State University Athletic Hall of Fame.

The class of 2020 includes 10-time national champion swimmer Carol Azambuja, national champion diver Paige Kortman, seven-time national champion swimmer Kayla Scott, men's basketball standout Bryan Smothers, who became only the second player in school history with 1,100 points, 300 assists and 300 rebounds, three-time All-GLIAC linebacker Ed Viverette, and three-time All-Region softball outfielder Logan White.

"This year's class looks like a swim party with a lot of great student-athletes including five selected in their initial year of Hall of Fame eligibility," commented WSU Director of Athletics Rob Fournier.  "Their resume' reflects the best attribute of membership -- they all advanced and made better championship teams."

The WSU Athletic Hall of Fame membership will increase to 255 with the inductions this February.

The official induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Historic St. Andrews on the WSU campus. The reception begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch served at noon and the program starting shortly thereafter.

Tickets for the luncheon can be purchased at the Matthaei Complex for $35 and advance reservations are required. The public is invited to attend.

In addition, the class will be introduced during the Feb. 15th basketball games vs. Parkside.
