Men's Tennis Blanks Walsh 7-0

WSU won all six singles flights in straight sets.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis program (3-1 overall) began a stretch of three home matches in five days with a 7-0 victory over Walsh University (1-7 overall) on Tuesday afternoon at the Duchene Athletic Facility.

DOUBLES RESULTS
The first doubles tandem of seniors Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) and Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) posted a 6-2 triumph over Jakob Riglewski and Pedro Campos.

The No. 2 double duo of sophomore Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) and junior Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) edged the Cavalier pairing of Clemens Wagner and Filipp Kulynych 7-5.

Redshirt junior Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) and freshman Max Rink (Wetzlar, Germany) notched a 6-4 win at third doubles over Joao Campos and Tim Bruin.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Karcz recorded a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles over Riglewski, while Vane was a 6-1, 6-1 victor at second singles over Dawson Drummond.

Mertz defeated Alex Medina, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, with Renaudie topping Joao Campos 6-1, 6-2 at fourth singles.

Freshman David Solar (Prague, Czech Republic) won 6-1, 6-0 over Guilherme Carneiro at No. 5 singles, and Sammons was a 6-4, 6-0 victor at sixth singles over Bruin.

UP NEXT
The Warriors will meet Lewis on Friday at PeachTree Tennis Club in Clinton Twp., Mich.  First serve is scheduled for noon.
