Women's Tennis Blanks Lawrence Tech on Senior Day

Seniors Astrid Ciellza and Dasha Kuznetsova played their final home matches at WSU.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis squad (12-2 overall, 7-2 GLIAC) swept Lawrence Tech (4-4 overall, 1-0 WHAC), 7-0, at Senior Day on Wednesday.

DOUBLES RESULTS
At No. 1 doubles, senior Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and sophomore Khadjia Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) blanked Maria Vega-Hazas and Sabrina Mateos, 6-0.

Senior Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) and sophomore Stephanie Stamate (Windsor, Ont.) won their No. 2 doubles match, 6-2, against Samantha Kohn and Samantha Weber.

Freshman Laura Cazacu (London, England) and sophomore Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) tallied a win by default at the third flight.

SINGLES RESULTS
Liong was the first flight to finish at No. 3 singles, sweeping Kohn in both sets (6-0, 6-0).

At the second flight, Cazacu nearly blanked Mateos after claiming all six points in the first set (6-0, 6-1).

Kuznetsova was the next off the courts with a victory over Vega-Hazas (6-0, 6-1) at No. 1 singles.

Ciellza was last to finish, winning her No. 4 singles match (6-0, 6-1) against Weber.

Da-Silva and freshman Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) won their matches at fifth and sixth singles by default.

UP NEXT
The Warriors will travel to Mayfield Village, Ohio, on February 28 (Thursday) for a 2:00 p.m. contest against Notre Dame College.
