Women's Tennis Claims 9-0 Victory Over Northwestern Ohio

This is the third consecutive match that the Warriors have swept their opponents.

LIMA, Ohio -- The Wayne State University women's tennis squad (14-2 overall, 7-2 GLIAC) blanked Northwestern Ohio (2-5 overall, 2-0 WHAC), 9-0, in the road contest on Friday.

DOUBLES RESULTS
Senior Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) and freshman Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) were the first off the courts, sweeping Ellen Sandstrom and Milica Karanovic (8-0) in their No. 3 doubles match.

At No. 2 doubles, freshman Laura Cazacu (London, England) and sophomore Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) were next to finish with an 8-3 victory over Veronica Rydstrom and Lena Tessmer.

At the first flight, senior Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and sophomore Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) won their match against Camila Puente and Gabriela Eva, 8-3.

SINGLES RESULTS
Liong nearly swept her No. 3 singles match, claiming a victory over Tessmer (6-0, 6-1).

At No. 2 singles, Cazacu won her match against Rydstrom (6-2, 6-0).

Kuznetsova was the next to finish, with a win in her close match at No. 1 singles versus Puente (6-4, 7-5).

Da-Silva almost blanked Eva at No. 4 singles, allowing only one game in the first set (6-1, 6-0).

At No. 6 singles, Jewell swept Karanovic (6-0, 6-0).

Ciellza was the last to finish at No. 5 singles, with a win over Sandstrom (6-4, 6-3).

WSU will play Saint Leo in Florida on Thursday, March 7, in a 3:00 p.m. match.
