LAKE NONA, Fla. -- The 25th-ranked Wayne State University women's tennis squad (15-5 overall) was upended 6-1 by the undefeated #7-Nova Southeastern team (17-0 overall) in Shark territory on Monday.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Senior
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) and freshman
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) were first off the courts after being swept, 7-0, by No. 3 doubles opponents Chantal Nosievici and Isabella Lowrey.
At No. 2 doubles, sophomore
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) and freshman
Laura Cazacu (Londond, England) fell 6-1 to Natalie Espinal and Sarah Wardenburg.
Senior
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and sophomore
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) had an unfinished No. doubles match (3-3) against Ana Navas and Daniela Obando.
SINGLES RESULTS
Da-Silva was first off the courts, losing her No. 4 singles match to Nosievici (6-1, 6-0).
At No. 1 singles, Kuznetsova fell to 13th-ranked Espinal (6-1, 6-3).
Cazacu scored the lone WSU point after winning her No. 2 singles match against Wardenburg (6-0, 7-5).
At No. 5 singles, Jewell was upended by Lowrey (6-3, 6-0).
Sophomore
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminde Julienne) lost her No. 6 singles match to Ivana Djordjevic (6-2, 6-2).
Liong was last off the courts at No. 3 singles, falling short in her close match against Diane Follin-Arbelet (7-5, 7-6(4)).
