GRIFFITH, Ind. -- The 21st-ranked Wayne State University women's tennis squad (16-5 overall) swept Purdue Northwest (4-14 overall) in Griffith, Ind., on Saturday.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Senior
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) and sophomore
Stephanie Stamate (Windsor, Ont.) notched a 6-2 victory over Lena van Bergen and Patricia Dizon at the first flight.
At No. 2 doubles, sophomore
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) and freshman
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) claimed a 6-4 win against Kelli Canul and Cynthia Basu-Chavez.
SINGLES RESULTS
Freshman
Laura Cazacu (London, England) won her No. 1 singles match versus van Bergen (6-0, 6-2).
Douglas upended Dizon in the No. 2 singles match (6-1, 6-1).
At No. 3 singles, Jewell nearly swept Canul (6-0, 6-1).
Stamate nearly blanked Anna Wachowski at No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-0).
Ciellza edged Basu-Chavez at No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-4).
WSU won the final point by default.
