NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- The No. 27-Wayne State University women's tennis squad (20-5 overall) notched a 5-2 victory at Walsh (12-8 overall) on Saturday evening.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Freshman
Laura Cazacu (London, England) and sophomore
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) were first off the courts after nearly blanking Maria Kacalova and Katharina Razum at No. 2 doubles (6-1).
At No. 1 doubles, senior
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and sophomore
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) secured the doubles point for the Green and Gold after a 6-4 win vs. Mercedes Fernandez and Nicole Beidacki.
Senior
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) and sophomore
Stephanie Stamate (Windsor, Ont.) fell in a tiebreaker at the third flight against Clara Drasch and Parvanee Karimpour (7-6(5)).
SINGLES RESULTS
Cazacu was first off the courts after nearly sweeping Kacalova at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-1).
Liong was next to finish, winning her No. 3 singles match vs. Drasch (6-1, 6-3).
At No. 4 singles, Da-Silva tallied a win against Beidacki (6-1, 6-2).
Kuznetsova lost her No. 1 singles match in a second-set tiebreaker versus Fernandez (6-3, 7-6(7)).
Sophomore
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) fell in her No. 5 singles match vs. Razum (6-2, 6-4).
At No. 6 singles, freshman
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) tallied the final WSU points against Sofia Khairutdinova (6-3, 6-4).
