Volleyball Swept at Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Wayne State University volleyball program (6-5 overall, 1-2 GLIAC) played its first GLIAC road match of the season on Tuesday night at Ashland (11-2 overall, 3-0 GLIAC) and the Warriors fell in three sets.  WSU lost by set scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-21.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Wayne State led 6-3 early in the first set after kills by Taylor Wagner (St. Joseph, Mich. / Lakeshore), Madelyn Krenz (Chenoa, Ill. / Prairie Central), Summer Farris (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) plus a service ace from Sam Palazzolo (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower).  The Eagles tied the set at 12-12, 15-15 and 16-16 before controlling the remainder of the set en route to a 25-20 victory.

The second set was tied at 7-7 following an Ashland attacking error.  However, the home team would lead 15-10 and 20-12 before going on to win 25-13.

A Maddie Morrison (Flushing, Mich.) kill tied the third set at 2-2.  Another point from Krenz kept the game tied at 7-7 but that would be as close as the Green & Gold would come.  Ashland held onto a 23-19 advantage before an AU error and a Morrison kill trimmed the deficit to two, 23-21.  The Eagles would capture the final two points to complete the sweep.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
Krenz paced WSU with nine kills on 23 swings.  Olivia Fike (North Branch, Mich.) and Lauren VanderWal (Caledonia, Mich) each posted six kills.  Kamryn Duffield (Romeo, Mich.) finished with 27 assists, while Morrison led the team with six digs.  Fike also tallied four blocks.
