Women's Tennis Finishes Play at Eastern Michigan Eagles Invitational

Sabrina Laynes paced the Warriors with four total wins across singles and doubles.

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team completed play at the Eastern Michigan Eagles Invitational on Saturday.  The tournament was shortened due to impending rain in the area.

Over the course of the tournament, a few players had strong showings.  Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) performed well, picking up three singles wins and pairing with Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) for an extra win in doubles play. Jewell also had a singles win of her own during the tournament.

Laynes was well tested in her matches over the weekend tournament.  She picked up a dominant victory over Findlay's Cristina Nieto Soto 6-1, 6-0, while also taking down EMU's Grace Whitney 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 on the opening day of play.  She then took down Western Michigan's Taylor Smith 6-3, 6-4 on the second day of the invitational.  Laynes and Jewell defeated their doubles opponent 6-3.

Another strong outing came from Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland), who had two singles wins and added a doubles victory with partner Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France).  Komar got her first singles win on Friday over Findlay's Luciana Pereyra 6-0, 6-4.  Her and Ruyssen won 6-4 in doubles on day one as well.  Komar added a win over EMU's Sabina Brichackova on day two.

Also in doubles action, the pair of Laura Cazacu (London, England) and Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia) picked up a pair of wins on day two of the invitational.  They won their first doubles match over Cleveland State's pair of Fillippa Frogner/Sima Heren 6-4.  Cazacu and Liong then went on to defeat WMU's pair of Kaitlyn Rogosch/Maya Perkucin 7-5.

Suki Mandair (Dexter, Mich. / Ann Arbor Skyline) added to the winning by collecting a singles win over Rafaela Platisota 6-2, 6-4.  Mandiar and Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) also had a walk over win in doubles.
