Women's Tennis Defeated by #20 GVSU, 6-1

Women's Tennis will host Davenport on March 26.

ALLENDALE, Mich. --  The 23rd-ranked Wayne State University women's tennis team (4-7 overall, 0-2 GLIAC) fell 6-1 at 20th-ranked Grand Valley State University (7-2 overall, 2-0 GLIAC) on Saturday morning.
 
DOUBLES
 
Freshmen Melanie Zampardo (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / University Liggett) and Suki Mandair (Dexter, Mich. / Ann Arbor Skyline) won their No. 1 doubles match 7-6 (10-8).
 
Senior Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and senior Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) won the No. 3 doubles match 7-5, after trailing 5-2.
 
Senior Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia) and sophomore Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) lost their No. 2 doubles match 6-2.
 
SINGLES
 
Liong fell in the No.1 singles match 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
 
In No. 2 singles, Zampardo lost 6-4, 5-3 (retired).
 
Mandair fell at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-4.
 
In No. 4 singles, Douglas lost 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.
 
In No. 5 singles, Laynes fell 6-1, 6-1.
 
At No. 6 singles, junior Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) lost 6-4, 3-6, 10-3 in a super tiebreaker.
