Softball Edged 1-0 By #13-Grand Valley State in GLIAC Tournament

SANDUSKY, Ohio -- The Wayne State University softball team (22-20 overall) lost 1-0 in a pitchers duel to 13th-ranked Grand Valley State University (39-7 overall) in a GLIAC Tournament winner's bracket semifinal contest on Tuesday afternoon.

GAME RECAP
The Warriors managed just three hits in being shutout for the fifth time this season, and second by the Lakers.

Senior Brooke Turkalj (St. Jacobs, Ont.) had a leadoff double in the second, but never was able to get to third base.

Senior Amy Claydon (Cambridge, Ont.) had a two-out single in the fourth, and senior Bryanna Kressler (Kitchener, Ont.) had a leadoff single in the sixth but was doubled up trying to go to second on a flyout.

GVSU scored the game's only run in the bottom of the first.  Joanna Cirrincione had a leadoff single to left, stole second base with two outs and scored on a single to center by Morgan Wagner.

IN THE CIRCLE
Brooke Nadolny (Clinton Township, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse) allowed just one run on six hits in six innings.  She struck out seven and walked three.

Hannah Beatus improved to 19-1 by shutting out the Warriors on three hits.  She struck out five and walked four.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
Kressler was the lone WSU player to reach base twice via a hit and a walk.

LEADING THE LAKERS
Hannah Hollister led GVSU with two hits.
