Softball Blanks Davenport 3-0 To Remain Alive in GLIAC Tournament

Nadolny tosses second shutout of the season.

Box Score SANDUSKY, Ohio -- The fifth-seeded Wayne State University softball squad (23-20 overall) staved off elimination by blanking third-seeded Davenport (23-23 overall) 3-0 Wednesday morning in a loser's bracket contest.  The Warriors advance to face Purdue Northwest at 2 p.m. this afternoon.

GAME RECAP
WSU scored in the top of the first as senior Bryanna Kressler (Kitchener, Ont.) drew a one-out walk and advanced to third on a single to right center by sophomore Brooke Nadolny (Clinton Township, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse).  Senior Brooke Turkalj (St. Jacobs, Ont.) followed with an RBI single through the left side.

Wayne State extended its lead to 2-0 in the second as senior Emily Dodge (Burlington, Ont.) had a leadoff double to right center and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Shelby Miller (Georgetown, Ont.).  Dodge scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of senior third baseman Rose Myers (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester).

The Warriors added an insurance run in the top of the sixth as senior Amy Claydon (Cambridge, Ont.) had a leadoff double down the right field line.  Flex player Breanna Paolatto (Belle River, Ont.) went to third on a sacrifice bunt by senior first baseman Emma Adams (Rockwood, Ont.) and scored on a ground out by Dodge.

IN THE CIRCLE
Nadolny (8-5) tossed a six-hit shutout.  She struck out eight and walked one.

Emma Miller (11-9) started for DU and allowed two earned runs on four hits in four innings.  She struck out one and walked one.  Ellie Muilenberg pitched the final three innings allowing one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
Claydon had two hits (both doubles) as three of WSU's seven hits went for extra bases.  Kressler reached base twice via a single and a walk.
