Women's Tennis Finds Success at Findlay Invite

Anais Ruyssen picked up three wins over the two day tournament.

Competing in the Findlay Invite Sept. 11-12, the Wayne State University women's tennis team had some strong showings across singles and doubles competition.

Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France / Enfants-Nantais (Keiser)) had a strong showing, picking up three singles wins in the tournament.  She knocked off opponents from Tiffin (6-2, 0-6, 10-3), Findlay (6-1, 6-3) and Bowling Green (6-4, 6-4).

Suki Mandair (Dexter, Mich. / Ann Arbor Skyline) also found success in singles action, picking up two wins.  She defeated Tiffin's Shea Foster (6-1, 6-2), while also knocking off BGSU's Maru Poppe (6-0, 7-6).

Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne), Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage), Carla Jewell (Horbart, Ind.) and Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia / SMK Seri Hartamas) also picked up wins at the tournament.  Douglas and Liong defeated opponents from Findlay, while Laynes and Jewell defeated players from Tiffin and BGSU, respectively.

In doubles action, the Warriors continued their winning ways, picking up three wins.  Ruyssen paired with Laura Cazacu (London, England / Cheam) upended Tiffins pair of Shea Foster and Jessica Peace (6-3).  Cazacu also led a singles match against Bowling Green before having to retire.

Ruyssen also played with Komar, with the pair picking up a win over Findlay's duo of Reagan Resor and Emily Hadler (6-2). Douglas and Mandair took down another pair of Oilers in a close match (7-6).

FROM COACH SNYDER

"It's been a while since we last competed and yesterday it showed," Snyder said.  "With only 3 practices under our belt, I thought we made huge strides today playing BG.  Our team has struggled with injuries as a newcomer, Anais, was able to fill the role at number one against BG and came up with a huge victory and performed well all weekend as a warrior.  Suki, our sophomore returner, also proved to be a tough contender by winning all her singles matches.  Overall, solid performances by all.  Looking forward to getting healthy and improving this fall to be ready for the spring season.

UP NEXT

The Warriors will hit the courts again on Sept. 24 against Hillsdale College.
