Ransom Allen Sets Program Record at NCAA Championships

Allen finished ninth at the Championship meet.

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Just a year after finishing 25th at the NCAA Division II Championship Cross Country meet, Wayne State University redshirt junior Ransom Allen (Ithaca, Mich.) was able to finish ninth in this year's event with a time of 30:04.3.  With that finish, Allen will be recognized as an All-American for the second consecutive season.

Allen now stands alone at the top of the WSU men's cross country mountain, as ninth place is the highest finish for a Warrior in program history.  He topped Don Richardson's 10th-place finish, which came back in 1974.  Nick Allen finished 18th in 2003 and had another top-25 finish (21st) in 2001.  Abdullah Saleh also had a strong showing at the national meet, as he collected 18th place in 2008.

Ransom Allen has two finishes among the program's top six all-time.  His finish this afternoon was the best in program history, and his 25th-place finish last season was good for sixth all-time.

QUOTING COACH LOFDAHL
"Ransom definitely proved that he is one of the best runners in the country.  He put himself in the top-20 early, moved up as high as sixth at the midway point, and battled some outstanding runners to earn a top-10 finish.  He is incredibly consistent in his approach to training and racing, and very rarely has a bad day.  He is also highly coachable, very humble, and a good leader for our men."
