Warriors Blank Eagles Behind Korolden's Gem

WSU improves to 9-4 on the season.

Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (9-4) blanked former GLIAC member Ashland (7-5) 3-0 on Sunday morning behind a masterful pitching performance from Ryan Korolden (Yale, Mich.) (2-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED
WSU struck first with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, which would be all the Warriors would need. Michael MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Country Day / The Lawrenceville School) drove in the games first run with a double into left field. Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich.) followed with an RBI single before Davis Graham (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) groundout out to make it 3-0 Warriors.

Pitching dominated the rest of the way and WSU was able to maneuver around a one-out single in the ninth inning to secure the victory.

AT THE PLATE
Both Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) and MacLean posted two-hit games, while MacLean, DeLanoy and Graham all drove in runs.

ON THE MOUND
With nearly no-hit stuff, Korolden struck out eight over eight innings and did not allow a run on just two hits and a walk. Chad Sommers (Jonesville, Mich.) closed it out for his second save of the season.

UP NEXT
WSU and Grand Valley State will square off in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.
