WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Wayne State University softball squad (7-7 overall) edge Bloomsburg (7-10 overall) 3-2 in dramatic fashion on Friday then fell 6-1 to Post (3-5 overall).
GAME ONE RECAP
The Huskies snapped a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth as Nicolette Ray hit a two-run home run to right center following a single by Sammi Starr.
The Warriors answered back in the bottom of the frame and sophomore shortstop
Shelby Miller (Georgetown, Ont.) walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman outfielder
Mady Ruczynski (Richmond, Mich. / Armada). Miller went to third on a ground out and scored on a double by freshman
Leah Wrubel (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Mattawan).
WSU trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore pinch-hitter
Alexis Bonk (New Hudson, Mich. / South Lyon) reached via a walk. Junior catcher
Becky Hodder (Orangeville, Ont.) re-entered and moved to second when junior first baseman
Breanna Paolatto (Belle River, Ont.) was hit by a pitch. Junior outfielder
Gabby Kaple (Galion, Ohio) had a bunt single to load the bases. After a force out at home, pinch-runner
Sydney Bogden (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) scored the tying run on a wild pitch. With two outs, Miller beat out a squeeze bunt plating Kaple with the winning run.
IN THE CIRCLE
Senior
Paige Ameel (Marysville, Mich.) improved to 4-3 by limiting the Huskies to two earned runs on six hits in seven innings. She struck out one and did not walk a batter.
Lyndsey Reinoehl pitched the first four innings and allowed one earned run on two hits. She walked one and did not record a strikeout. Kelly Eberly (1-3) hurled the final 2.2 innings. She surrendered two earned runs on three hits with strikeouts and two walks.
LEADING THE WARRIORS
Ruczynski went 2-for-2, while Miller went 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI.
LEADING THE HUSKIES
Ray went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
GAME TWO RECAP
The Eagles snapped a scoreless draw in the bottom of the third with three consecutive hits, including an RBI double by Caitlin DeAngelis. Bonk limited the damage to just the one run despite Post having runners at second and third and zero outs.
A walk and two singles, including an RBI hit by DeAngelis, in the fourth extended Post's advantage to 2-0.
Post tacked on four more runs in the sixth, which included an RBI single by Samantha Wallauer and a three-run home run by DeAngelis.
The Warriors prevented the shutout in the top of the seventh as pinch-hitter
Emily Guzzo (London, Ont.) walked on four pitches. After a fielder's choice and a fly out, second baseman
Rainey Psenicka (Guelph, Ont.) smacked a double to right center, and Miller followed with an RBI single to center. A walk to Ruczynski loaded the bases, but a fielder's choice ended the contest.
IN THE CIRCLE
Bonk (1-3) allowed six earned runs on nine hits in six innings of work. She struck out seven and walked five.
Brianna Koref (2-2) went the distance for Post limiting WSU to one earned run on eight hits. She walked three and did not record a strikeout.

Wayne State will conclude its spring break trip with a pair of contests on Saturday. WSU will play Saint Anselm at 9 a.m., followed by an 11:30 contest against Le Moyne.
