Softball Swept By Purdue Northwest

Warriors out-scored 7-1 and 11-1.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University softball team (13-21 overall, 6-10 GLIAC) lost both games in a home doubleheader versus Purdue University Northwest (19-9 overall, 9-5 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon.  The visiting Pride won the opener 7-1, then scored 10 runs over the final two innings to claim the nightcap 11-1.

GAME ONE RECAP
The Pride's Selena Michko hit a two-run home run in the top of the second, then had the first of three consecutive RBI singles in the third.  Briana Poehler and Amanda Noblett RBI singles made it 5-0.  Aubrey Shroyer added a leadoff home run in the fourth.

Back-to-back one-out doubles in the fifth by Emily Guzzo (London, Ont.) and Becky Hodder (Orangeville, Ont.) produced Wayne State's only run.

Purdue Northwest completed the scoring in the sixth via a hit by pitch, a wild pitch and an RBI single by Madison Schultz.

IN THE CIRCLE
Paige Ameel (Marysville, Mich.) allowed seven runs (four earned) on 12 hits in seven innings of work.  She struck out three and walked one.

Abbie May (7-1) limited WSU to one run on six hits.  She recorded one strikeout and did not walk a batter.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
Guzzo went 3-for-3 with a run scored.

LEADING THE PRIDE
Poehler went 3-for-4, while Michko had two hits, two runs scored and three RBI.

GAME TWO RECAP
Michko led off the top of the fourth with a home run for the game's first run.

PNW added five runs in the top of the sixth, which included a two-run double by Shroyer to make it 3-0.  Jocey Gault had an RBI single and Schultz contributed an RBI double with the last run coming on a wild pitch.

Purdue Northwest tacked on five additional runs in the seventh with the final four runs coming on a grand slam by Gault.

Wayne State scored once in the seventh as Guzzo had a leadoff walk, went to second on a walk by Leah Wrubel (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Mattawan), and advanced to third on the first collegiate hit for Sydney Bogden (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower), then scored as Rylie Josephson (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) reached on a catcher's interference.

IN THE CIRCLE
Alexis Bonk (New Hudson, Mich. / South Lyon) was tagged for 11 runs (10 earned) on 14 hits in seven innings.  She struck out three and walked six.

Maddison Roop (5-2) allowed one unearned run in a complete-game effort.  She struck out one and walked two, while allowing three hits.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
Wrubel reached base twice with a single and a walk.

LEADING THE PRIDE
Allison Arnold and Gault each had three hits, with Gault driving in five runs.

UP NEXT
Wayne State will play six road games next week with GLIAC doubleheaders at Saginaw Valley State on Tuesday, Grand Valley State on Saturday, and Davenport on Sunday.
