ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University softball team (13-25 overall, 6-14 GLIAC) lost twice on Saturday afternoon at 24th-ranked Grand Valley State (34-5 overall, 19-3 GLIAC). GVSU won the opener 7-1, then claimed the nightcap 11-3 in six innings.
GAME ONE RECAP
The Lakers scored twice in the bottom of the first on four consecutive singles, including an RBI hit by Kelsey Komorous. Hannah Hollister added a sacrifice fly.
Grand Valley extended its lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second by Joanna Cirrincione.
GVSU had the bases loaded the following inning, but WSU hurler
Alexis Bonk (New Hudson, Mich. / South Lyon) snared a line drive to end the frame.
In the top of the fourth, junior
Breanna Paolatto (Belle River, Ont.) smacked a two-out double and scored on an RBI single by graduate student
Rose Myers (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester).
The Lakers added to their advantage in the sixth on an RBI bunt by Lydia Goble, a sacrifice fly by Komorous and an RBI double off the bat of Taylor Rieger.
IN THE CIRCLE
Bonk allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits in six innings. She walked four and did not record a strikeout.
Hannah Beatus (16-2) allowed one earned run on four hits. She struck out six and walked one.

Senior second baseman
Rainey Psenicka (Guelph, Ont.) had two hits, including a double.
LEADING THE LAKERS
Cirrincione had three hits, two RBI and two runs scored, while Kaitlyn Lynch, Goble and Komorous each contributed two hits.
GAME TWO RECAP
Grand Valley grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on a walk and RBI doubles by Goble and Rieger.
GVSU increased its margin with a four-run second inning. Cirrincione had a two-run single after the first run scored on a WSU throwing error. The final run of the frame came on a double play ball.
Wayne State cut its deficit in half in the third as freshman
Leah Wrubel (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Mattawan) and junior
Becky Hodder (Orangeville, Ont.) were each hit by a pitch. Junior
Gabby Kaple (Galion, Ohio) worked a two-out walk to load the bases and freshman
Mady Ruczynski (Richmond, Mich. / Armada) laced a three-run double to left center on a 3-2 offering.
The Lakers scored an unearned run in the fourth, and added two more unearned runs in the fifth to make it 9-3. In the bottom of the sixth, after the first two batters were retired, a single and back-to-back doubles produced the final two runs of the game.
IN THE CIRCLE
Graduate student
Emily Karas (Macomb Twp., Mich. / Utica Henry Ford II) went the distance allowing 11 runs (six earned) on 11 hits in 5.2 innings. She struck out two and walked four.
Genesis Eggert (11-1) allowed three earned runs on one hit in six innings. She struck out seven and walked one.

Ruczynski had a three-run double for WSU's lone hit.
