Women's Tennis Falls 5-2 at Northwood

WSU is the co-champions of the GLIAC

MIDLAND, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (12-7 overall, 7-1 GLIAC) fell to Northwood (14-6 overall, 7-1 GLIAC) 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Midland Tennis Center.  Even with the loss, the Warriors are co-champions in the league. 

SINGLES
The Warriors collected two singles wins, starting with Laura Cazacu (London, England).  She was able to post a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles. 

The other singles victory for WSU came from Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia), who fought back after losing the first set.  She collected a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win. 

At the No. 1 spot, Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France) was upended in a three-set battle, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6. 

Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) also took her match to three sets, but she ultimately fell, 7-6 (1), 3-6, 4-6, at the No. 5 spot. 

Playing at No. 2 singles, Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland) dropped her match, 4-6, 2-6. 

Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) was defeated at No. 6 singles, 3-6, 2-6. 

DOUBLES
Douglas and Laynes were the only Warriors pair to claim a victory in doubles, as the duo collected a 6-2 win. 

Ruyssen and Komar were upeneded at No. 1 doubles, 5-7. 

At No. 2 doubles, Cazacu and Liong were defeated, 3-6. 

UP NEXT
The Warriors will be back at Midland Tennis Center for the GLIAC Tournament, which will run from April 29-May 1.
