Women's Tennis Advances to GLIAC Tournament Championship with 4-2 Win Over GVSU

Anais Ruyssen, Laura Cazacu and Linda Liong secured singles wins for WSU.

MIDLAND, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (13-7 overall) is one win away from being crowned GLIAC Tournament Champions after defeating Grand Valley State (14-6 overall) 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Midland Tennis Center.  The Warriors will square off with Northwood on Sunday, May 1st in the GLIAC Tournament Championship.  

SINGLES
After claiming the doubles point, WSU was able to earn three singles wins to clinch the match.  Anais Ruyssen (Nantes France) was strong in the No. 1 spot of the lineup, recording a 6-1, 7-6 (5) victory. 

Laura Cazacu (London, England) won her match at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. 

Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia) was the other singles win for Wayne State, as she posted a 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. 

Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland) did not get to complete her match, while Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) dropped her match at No. 5 singles and Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) fell at No. 6 singles. 

DOUBLES
The Warriors made quick work of the Lakers in doubles, as the top two teams earned victories.  Ruyssen and Komar recorded a 6-1 win in the top spot.  

Cazacu and Liong were also strong, earning a 6-2 victory at the No. 2 spot of the lineup.  

Douglas and Laynes didn't complete their match due to the doubles point being clinched. 

UP NEXT
After falling to Northwood a week ago, Wayne State will have another crack at the Timberwolves in the GLIAC Tournament Championship.  The Warriors will square off with Northwood on Sunday, May 1st at the Midland Tennis Center.  The match is set for 11 AM.
