Baseball Ranked Second in Latest Regional Rankings

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University baseball team (33-15 overall, 16-7 GLIAC) is ranked second in the third set of Midwest Regional rankings, which were released on Wednesday afternoon.  WSU has its sights set on its seventh NCAA Tournament trip under head coach Ryan Kelley and ninth overall.  The GLIAC boasts the three of the top four teams in the region.

Additionally, the Warriors are just outside the top 25 in the national poll receiving 16 points (30th).

Ahead of WSU is Davenport, while Northwood and Quincy round out of the top five.  This is the final set regional rankings prior to the selection show.

Seven teams will be selected from the Midwest region to compete at the NCAA Regionals beginning on May 19th.  The top two teams in the region will each have hosting duties.  The top seed will host the No. 4 and No. 5 ranked teams in a double elimination format, while the second seed will play host to the remaining three programs (No. 3, No. 6 and No.7) also in a double-elimination format.  The field will be announced on May 15th at 10:00 p.m. via an NCAA.com selection show.  The winner of each regional will then meet at the higher-seed's campus for a best-of-three Super Regional with a trip to the Division II College World Series in North Carolina on the line.

The Warriors will begin play at the GLIAC Tournament on Thursday at noon against Saginaw Valley State.  The league playoffs are being played at the U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Ind.
