Women's Tennis Advances to NCAA Midwest Region Final With Win Over Tiffin

The Warriors will play Indianapolis tomorrow morning.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (15-7 overall) has advanced to the NCAA Midwest Region Final after downing Tiffin (21-5 overall) 4-1 on Friday morning at the UIndy Tennis Center.  The Warriors will play Indianapolis at Center Grove High School tomorrow morning. 

SINGLES
After failing to collect the doubles point, the Warriors came out with a sense of urgency and dominated the singles courts.  Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia) tied the match 1-1 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles. 

Following her, Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France) put the Green and Gold in front with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top spot in the lineup. 

Playing at No. 6 singles, Sabrina Laynes pushed the Warriors' advantage to 3-1.  She posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory. 

But it was Laura Cazacu (London, England) who clinched the match, earning a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles.  She came back from being down 1-4 in both sets. 

Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland) and Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) didn't get to complete their matches, as the victory had been secured. 

DOUBLES
The Warriors dropped the doubles point, as only Ruyssen and Komar were able to post a victory.  The duo won, 6-1, at the top spot of the lineup. 

Cazacu and Liong were upended 3-6 at No. 2 doubles.

Playing at No. 3 doubles, Douglas and Laynes dropped their match, 4-6. 

UP NEXT
The Green and Gold will have another match tomorrow, as WSU will play the top-overall seed in the Midwest Region in Indianapolis.  That match is set to begin at 12 PM at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Ind.  The winner will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will take place from May 17-21 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
