Women's Tennis Falls to Indianapolis in NCAA Midwest Regional Final

The Warriors finished the season with a 15-8 overall record.

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (15-8 overall) had its season come to an end Saturday afternoon, as the Warriors fell 4-0 to Indianapolis (19-2 overall) in the NCAA Midwest Region Final at Center Grove High School.  The Greyhounds were the top overall seed in the region and hosted the match. 

SINGLES
The Warriors dropped the doubles point, which meant the Greyhounds only needed three singles wins to clinch the match.  Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) was upended at No. 4 singles, 0-6, 3-6. 

Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) dropped her match at No. 5 singles, 2-6, 1-6. 

Playing at the No. 6 spot of the lineup, Suki Mandair (Dexter, Mich. / Ann Arbor Skyline) fell 2-6, 1-6. 

Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France), Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland) and Laura Cazacu (London, England) were unable to complete their matches with Indianapolis clinching the match. 

DOUBLES
WSU lost the doubles point, as it dropped matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots.  Ruyssen and Komar dropped their match at the top of lineup, 0-6.  

Douglas and Laynes were also defeated 0-6 at No. 3 doubles. 

Cazacu and Liong were ahead 3-2 in their match, but it was ultimately abandoned due to the doubles point being clinched by the Greyhounds. 

UP NEXT
The Warriors concluded the 2021-22 season with a 15-8 overall record.  They were regular season co-champions in the GLIAC and won the GLIAC Tournament.  The Green and Gold also collected a win in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019, where the Warriors defeated Walsh in the opening round.  WSU beat Tiffin in the first round of this year's tournament.
