Women's Golf Ranked Fourth Nationally Among All NCAA Schools In Team GPA

WSU posted a 3.892 team GPA for the 2021-22 academic year.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's golf program ranked fourth nationally (among all three NCAA Divisions) with a team GPA of 3.892 for the 2021-22 academic year per a release from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), which announced the WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award recipients.

"From day one I've witnessed this very impressive group of student athletes understand the balance it takes to excel academically, while always working towards playing their best on the golf course," remarked head coach Larry Hamilton.  "I'm very fortunate to be their coach.  They really encourage and support each other both academically and athletically."

Leading the way for WSU with a 4.00 term GPA both semesters were senior Daniela Moreno (Bogota, Colombia) and redshirt freshman Logan Potts (Norton Shores, Mich. / Mona Shores), while junior Avery Howard (Muskegon, Mich. / Reeths-Puffer) posted a 3.91 GPA for the academic year.  The squad earned a 3.86 GPA for the Fall 2021 term and then garnered a 3.91 for the Winter 2022 semester.

All six student-athletes were named WGCA All-American Scholars earlier this month.

Not only was the women's golf team successful in the classroom, they also advanced to the NCAA Tournament finishing eighth out of 15 teams at the NCAA East Regional.
