Alan Trammell and Lance Parrish Share Baseball Knowledge at 12th Annual Camp

DETROIT -- Last week for three days, the Wayne State University Athletic Department and the baseball program partnered with Alan Trammell and Lance Parrish for the 12th Annual Trammell/Parrish Camp for participants ranging in ages from 7-18 at Tom Adams Field, Doris J. & Donald L. Duchene, Sr. Athletic Facility, Gary Bryce Field and Harwell Field.

The three-day event attracted over 100 developing baseball players per day to campus for the clinic.  Trammell and Parrish are long-time clients of Wayne State University alum S. Gary Spicer, Sr. (MBA '65) who arranged for the appearances and established this camp experience with WSU Director of Athletics Rob Fournier and head baseball coach Ryan Kelley.  Nearly 4,000 participants have attended the camps since 2010.

The sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday featured the Alan Trammell Infield Camp and the Lance Parrish Catching Camp.  The Thursday curriculum was a comprehensive fundamentals camp with a game-like showcase for the older campers in attendance.

Trammell spent all 20 of his Major League seasons with the Tigers and was part of the 2018 Hall of Fame class.  A six-time All-Star, Trammell was a four-time Gold Glove winner and a three-time Silver Slugger Award winner.  Since his tenure as a player, Trammell has garnered extensive experience as a Major League Baseball coach and manager.  Trammell is a Special Assistant to the General Manager within the Detroit Tigers organization.

"They won the 1984 World Series, but Alan Trammell and Lance Parrish helped deliver another championship experience with their 12th annual camp," said Kelley.  "We would like to thank the camp participants for their passion to improve, learn and have fun.  I was very impressed with their ability to exemplify tremendous teamwork.  The camp participants' energy in collaboration with our event staff was dynamic!  It was a camp to remember!  I would like to thank our Wayne State University Baseball student-athletes, coaching staff, select guest instructors and departmental support staff for their outstanding enthusiasm, attention to detail and commitment to this camp experience.  Assistant Baseball Coach Aaron Hepner was instrumental in the foundation of this camp's overall organization and strategy.   A sincere sponsorship thanks to Mr. Willie Newman of High Point Financial, the Equity Solutions team, WSU Hall of Famer Mark Limback, the Motor City Hit Dogs Program, the Detroit Prospects and Catholic High School League."
