DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (10-18 overall, 5-12 GLIAC) fell to Parkside (18-10 overall, 12-5 GLIAC) in four sets on Friday night inside the Matthaei Center. The Warriors will need a win on Saturday or a Lake Superior State loss to qualify for the GLIAC Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED (19-25, -23, 22-25, 21-25)
- Parkside opened the match with 14 of the first 20 points on the board.
- From there, the closest Wayne State could get was three, 21-18, before the Rangers answered with a 4-1 run to take the set and a 1-0 match lead.
- The second period was the Warriors' best offensively at .200 thanks to 17 kills and eight errors on 45 total attacks.
- The third stanza saw a combined nine ties and six lead changes.
- The home team was ahead by two, 22-20, before its visitors rattled off five scores in a row to go up two sets to one.
- WSU opened the fourth with a 7-3 spurt.
- Once the Warriors held a two-point advantage at 10-8, the Rangers punched back with five straight to lead by three, 13-10.
- Wayne State clawed back within one on four occasions, but never closer, as Parkside held on for the four-set decision.
