ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Wayne State University softball squad (2-3 overall) completed its season-opening weekend by defeating William Jewell College (1-7 overall) 13-0 in five innings Saturday morning.
The Warrior offense scored four times in the first added, seven in the third frame, and two more in the top of the fourth to complete the scoring.

Alexis Bonk (New Hudson, Mich. / South Lyon) earned the victory allowing just one hit and one walk over four innings, while striking out six. Freshman
Sasha Buckberger (Oakville, Ont.) pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning.
The Cardinals used four pitchers who combined allowed 13 earned runs on 14 hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Mady Ruczynski (Richmond, Mich. / Armada) each had three hits, while Bonk, Ruczynski and senior

Sophia Lopez broke up Bonk's no-hit bid with a solid single to center with one out in the bottom of the fourth.

Wayne State will travel to Ohio Dominican for a three-game series starting with a single game on Friday in Columbus, Ohio.
